As you may know, I teach several classes during the week while balancing a full-time day job. Sometimes things get a little crazy maintaining such a full schedule. I definitely don’t have time for anything to go wrong or to be sick. I feel very accountable to many people whether it’s at the yoga studio, in meetings, and most definitely toward my husband and pup. Read on for my go-to self-care techniques.
Staying Inspired as a Yoga Teacher
I knew I wanted to teach yoga since the very first class I took way back in 2005. There was something so healing about the experience. Rhonda Martin, my first yoga teacher, will forever be with me. She quite literally set my life on a trajectory that wasn’t even on my radar. I had big plans of going into architecture and designing sustainable and beautiful homes. Flash forward fourteen years later, and here I am quite literally living a dream that was born out of those first weeks of learning about yoga at a community college. I’m most afraid of losing this passion to teach.
Sun Salutations: Tuning In
To this day, in every.single.class that I teach, I use some form of Sun Salutation at the beginning of class to help my students step into the space of their practice, set their intentions, and feel—it also acts as a way to tune in to the body while tuning out everything else that is going on. Come, practice with me; deepen and connect. Follow along with my Sun Salutation HERE.
Self-care: Is it Important?
A few years back, I found myself at a really low point. You see, depression runs in my family and, it wasn’t the first time I was in despair but this time felt lower than most. I literally felt like I was spiraling out of control just waiting to hit bottom. Words aren’t enough to describe that feeling of seeking your lowest point. I found myself withdrawing, unable to connect with my friends and family, and ultimately like I was more of a burden to the people in my circle. Suffice it to say, my mental health was in a bad way.

Daily Routine Must-Haves
My mom has been around for the holiday break which is always so fun. We get to share ideas, stories, dreams, and adventures. We’ll often share our favorite products that have made an impact on our day-to-day lives. You know when you find something so good, you want everyone to know so they can benefit too? I figured you might also want to know!
2018: A Look Back
With the end of 2018 fast approaching, reflecting on the year helps me to anchor in accomplishment and gratitude. It’s been a damn good year with the realization of many goals and dreams. My yoga intentions for 2018 were to spend more time developing a stronger yoga community, to find a home studio, and to create balance between teaching yoga and a full-time career. Read on for my 2019 intentions…
Finding Inspiration During the Chaos
I’m running on all cylinders and had some massive Yoga by Paige business moves, starting with a website launch and the announcement of my first yoga retreat near Joshua Tree National Park coming up in April 2019—save the date! I have a fun local to San Francisco event coming up in January too, details will be posted soon.
Welcome!
Welcome to the beginning of our #YBP blog! Most yoga teachers I know are living the grind and we do it because we love being in service to our community and facilitating growth within our students—I know that’s why I keep such a busy schedule on top of a full-time day job.
I’ve created this space to share snippets of inspiration, yoga musings, and practice offerings. I’m so glad you’re here sharing the journey. I wouldn’t be here without you. Read about the first lit under my buns after attending Yoga by Candace’s business training.
