My first ever full-length (40ish minutes) yoga flow! We work on cultivating a deeper connection to our core muscles, allowing for our movement to stem from the power house of our torso. Be sure to stick around for the svasana included at the end, it’s a novelty!
In the last month I had the opportunity to do some dedicated breath work outside of my usual pranayama, typically offered in yoga classes. The idea of being able to release some really deep seeded emotions while lying down and manipulating the breath. I’ve felt fundamental shifts with the connection to my soul and my life’s purpose.
My love for podcasts has grown exponentially in the last couple of years—so much so, that my Monday ritual has included going to the gym, hopping on whichever cardio machine I’m feeling that day, and catching up on all the newly released podcasts. Some I listen to purely for fun and curiosity, others to continue my yoga education, and also for business growth and development. Read on for my favorites in heavy rotation!
I love a really strong yoga practice just as much as a booty-kicking workout class. As a result, my shoulders tend to run pretty darn tight. Add on many hours spent at the computer and I feel even tighter. If you’re anything like me, and your body craves a release this is for you. Since I've had a low-key obsession with glamping ever since I first heard the term, it was high time to check it out. Then, I found a spot that was just an hour and a half from the Bay Area and the deal was sealed! This trip was a little pleasure and a little business, I took the hubs for a belated birthday getaway and to see if it would be good for future retreats. Win-win!
For the last five years or so, I have thoroughly enjoyed everything festivals have to offer; from the food, to the people, music, art, and activities. Festivals are a great opportunity to really step outside of the ol’ comfort zone.
My festival experience began with Wanderlust, a pretty well-known yoga festival hosted in ten different locations across North America.
As with any career, being a yoga teacher presents its own challenges. Some of the biggest challenges and frustrations that I’ve encountered in my eight years of teaching is about knowing the right people and being the right place at the right time. Which can feel like so much happenstance. I used to be really frustrated at this, the idea that people were getting ahead because they knew someone or because they’re friend knows someone. It wasn’t until I began to realize that I have the same opportunities available to me and that while another yoga teacher might have their network, I, too, can have my very own network and community.
I can vividly remember having a conversation with my momma in 2011 when I first told her I was enrolled in yoga teacher training and how I might be able to combine my love of travel and yoga into offering yoga retreats. My husband and I both love to host get togethers, creating experiences for our friends and family to commune and spend time together. With all of this, leading retreats feels like such a dream come true. We learned a lot leading this first retreat, and I can't wait for many more to come.
Our first retreat was a wild success by any measure, but every event offers its own learnings. Here is what I’ll be changing up a bit for our Coastal Glamping yoga retreat in the fall.
